Lacy Shirey
Lacy Shirey is the Executive Director of the Elizabeth River Project, a leading environmental nonprofit dedicated to restoring the health of the Elizabeth River through innovative restoration, education, and community engagement programs.
Lacy brings more than 18 years of nonprofit leadership experience to her role. Prior to joining the Elizabeth River Project, she served as Executive Director of the Chesapeake Humane Society, where she led transformative growth in programs and community partnerships.
Lacy serves on several local boards, including the WHRO Community Advisory Board, the Portsmouth Partnership Board, and the Chesapeake Alliance Executive Board. Her leadership has been recognized with numerous honors, including Inside Business’s Top 40 Under Forty and the Chesapeake Environmental Improvement Council’s Citizen of the Year award.
Beyond her professional commitments, she is the beekeeper for Big Ugly Brewing and co-founder of both COVA Recycles and Chesapeake Recycles, initiatives promoting community-based recycling solutions.
